Case Study of Powder Coatings Purchased by Norway's NorthSea Energy Innovations Company

Norway is one of the largest oil and gas producers in Northern Europe and has abundant oil and gas resources. These petrochemical industries require a large number of special pipelines to transport and store the extracted oil and natural gas. NorthSea Energy Innovations is a well-known oil processing and refining company in Norway, engaged in primary refining and storage services of oil and natural gas. These petrochemical operations require large amounts of anti-corrosion materials to protect pipelines and storage equipment. As a synonym for super weather resistance and corrosion resistance, powder coating has been widely used in the petrochemical industry as early as the last century.

Process of cooperation

NorthSea Energy Innovations usually conducts anti-corrosion and wear-resistance inspections on the entire oil transportation and storage tanks and other containers about once a year, and determines whether maintenance or overall replacement is needed based on the inspection results. We received an inquiry email from NorthSea Energy Innovations in March 2023. In the email, they clearly stated that they need to purchase a large amount of corrosion-resistant and high-temperature-resistant powder coatings for coating basic equipment in the petrochemical field.

Since we did not know the specific performance requirements of NorthSea Energy Innovations for powder coatings, we only mailed a small number of epoxy resin powder coating and polyester resin powder coating samples for coating effect testing in the initial stage.

At the end of April 2023, we received test results from NorthSea Energy Innovations. The adhesion of epoxy resin powder coatings will decrease when facing specially shaped petroleum storage equipment. Polyester resin powder coatings did not perform well in the salt spray test. Didn’t get great results. In response to the above two problems, our technical team adjusted the formula of epoxy resin and polyester resin powder coatings, replaced and enhanced the original powder coating additives, and then we used the improved powder coating samples again Mail to NorthSea Energy Innovations for testing.

The results of the new round of testing came quickly and we were both satisfied with the results. NorthSea Energy Innovations also successfully gave us considerable orders. The preparation of powder coatings for this special application scenario and equipment allows our technical team and R&D personnel to further enhance their experience. In the future, when facing the complex petrochemical industry, our powder coatings will have a wider range of application scenarios. At the same time, we also understand that the cost of powder coating, coating process and final coating quality are the fundamental factors that determine whether customers purchase our products. Before sending powder coating samples, you need to communicate with customers more deeply about the actual application requirements and formulate an effective powder coating application plan to win the trust of customers.
