Yadong Auto is a well-known auto parts manufacturing and modification company in South Korea. It has many years of history in the field of auto parts manufacturing and personalized painting. They apply epoxy powder coatings to components such as gasoline filters, air purifiers and brake lines. For exterior door and window components, luggage racks, bumpers and other equipment, polyester or acrylic powder coatings are often used for coating. In recent years, Yadong Automobile Company has gradually explored the field of coating engine parts, trying to use powder coatings to improve the anti-corrosion performance of engine parts while maintaining a higher level of appearance.

Process of cooperation

Mr. Li Pingxian, the head of the purchasing department of Yadong Automobile, has always maintained a good partnership with us. Over the years, we have not only had friendly cooperation in business, but also established a deep personal friendship. When we learned that Yadong Automobile was looking for suitable powder coatings for coating automobile engine parts, we took the initiative to contact them by email. Mr. Li told us that the company has invested a lot of money in research and technology improvement for the anti-corrosion coating of engine parts, but some of their other powder coating suppliers have not been able to provide powder coatings of corresponding quality. Both anti-corrosion performance and scratch resistance are far from meeting their design specifications. So much so that their engineering and technical department personnel once suspected whether the design parameters were not customized reasonably enough.

After learning the specific problem of the other party, we did not respond immediately. Our technical team has had in-depth communication with multiple automotive research institutions in China. Yadong Company’s design requirements for powder coating of automobile engine parts are actually reasonable. The root cause of their many experimental failures is that the performance of the powder coating itself has not reached the standard.
Powder coatings for engine parts usually need to consider three factors: high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and wear resistance. To solve the problem of high temperature resistance, we will give priority to recommend high temperature resistant resins such as silicone resin, phenolic resin and polyimide. For solving corrosion resistance problems, we will give priority to recommending epoxy resin and polyester resin. As for the wear resistance of engine parts, powder coatings such as polyetherketone and fluoropolymer can easily meet this challenge.

After conducting in-depth research with domestic automotive research institutions, our technical team configured 3 different proportions of automotive engine coating powder coatings. The additives, curing agents and main components of these three powder coatings are similar, but their anti-corrosion, high temperature resistance and wear resistance properties are quite different after specific electrostatic spraying and melt solidification processes. Considering that engines of different models have completely different usage environments and working conditions, these three powder coatings can meet the engine coating design needs of Yadong Company to a large extent.

The powder coating samples were quickly sent to South Korea by our technical team, and we witnessed the coating effect of the samples together with the technical team of Yadong Automobile. In various experimental data, our three different models of powder coating products have been able to meet each other’s design indicators, and far exceeded the original failed experimental data. Mr. Li and the technical team of Yadong Automobile expressed their gratitude for our efforts and accelerated the cooperative procurement process between the two parties.

Since then, from the signing of the contract to the production of the order, there have been no problems with these three different types of powder coatings, and the entire cooperation process has been very smooth. We completed the delivery of the order within the stipulated time according to the quantity agreed in the contract. Yadong Company also relied on this technical picture to obtain more orders in the Korean engine coating market, which enhanced its core competitiveness and won more recognition for its brand.
